Just pain on pain。 The Kyoto crew is finally turning up, but frankly, it’s too late。 But boy was I glad to see Todo。The Shibuya arc has really been a cultural reset。 I hated Gojo and Todo and now I’m a massive supporter of both of them and I will be singing their praises forever(or until they annoy me again)。 Todo may be arrogant and obnoxious, but he truly cares for his brother and he’s here to help which is what’s important。 He is pushing Yuji to not only get stronger, but to live and to acknowledge his reason for this。 I loved him in this volume and his little locket is adorable。 Yuji’s pain is an interesting one。 So, the demon inside has been done a few times in Shonen manga。 Of the ones I’ve seen, this one is different in that there can be no reconciliation between Sukuna and Yuji。 It’s not just the fact that Sukuna’s crimes are fresh and endless, their entire philosophies and the basis of their lives are complete opposites。 Sukuna lives for himself and Yuji for other people- he wants to help others so that they will be there for him at the end of his life。 There can be no common ground。 The pain Yuji felt this volume。 He came to try and make up for Sukuna’s annihilation of the upper surface but he felt he’d failed。 Todo, his brother, brings him back and now he’s found what he needs to do。 He has to devote himself to killing curses endlessly if that’s what it takes to save humans。 Sukuna’s got to go。 But why is it that the only way I can see out of this s*cide, I really thought Yuji was contemplating it。 Please dear Gege do not let Mahito survive this。 Not this guy。 Yuji finally had him cornered and then Kenjack-ass (already been spoiled about who he is) turns up to put him in a dragon ball。 Please do not let that be some sort of poke-ball where he can recuperate。 I can’t have this guy continuing to live。 Let’s whittle the enemy down to two。 Not-Geto and Sukuna。 Enough of the abandoned, trashcan cabbage patch kid。 To be fair, he was very entertaining and I really enjoyed seeing him fight。 His final form reminded me of The Mouth of Sauron and seeing as Yuji was watching those movies, I may be right in thinking Gege is a fan and drew inspiration from there。I’m very excited to see where this goes。 The Kyoto crew is coming but the battle is ending。 Another villain has stepped out of the shadows to take centre stage。 Gojo is gone。 This is apparently going to have major repercussions around the world。 Choso is having a breakdown on the floor in a train station。Initially, I did think that JJK lacked something。 It was undeniably similar to some very famous titles in Shonen, which is to be expected。 The author (I gather from the bonus chapters) is in his twenties and he must have been inspired to take up this profession through a love of the genre so the inspiration is obviously going to be there。 But you can also see the influence of a lot of other genres and famous films that I imagine the author is a fan of。 For a time, I did not think that that which made JJK different was enough to hold my interest but this arc and this volume blew that thought right out of my mind。 JJK is bringing something to the table and I’m here for it。 The curses are pretty gory and very D+D which I’m liking。 The bonus chapters show the author’s humour which despite being random, made this volume better because I got to experience some of that goof that had been missing for a while。 If I had to pitch this to a publisher (they like comparison) I would say it would please fans of Naruto+Bleach+Gintama but it’s NOT a copy。 And if you didn’t like them, it’s probably still worth giving this a shot。 。。。more
Alexandra Elend Wolf,
“You came to Shibuya with half-assed determination, didn’t ya?! How naïve, you stupid brat! This is war! Not a battle to fix what’s wrong! But a clash of truths! And your fragile justice!”
Holy。 Freaking。 Smokes。 My heart hurts so badly after this volume。 If I had thought that everything before this point was crazy and heartbreaking I was sorely mistaken。 I had no idea how hard and devastating this could be。 Well, maybe I did a little with the previous volume but just a bit。 The thing is, “You came to Shibuya with half-assed determination, didn’t ya?! Holy。 Freaking。 Smokes。 My heart hurts so badly after this volume。 If I had thought that everything before this point was crazy and heartbreaking I was sorely mistaken。 I had no idea how hard and devastating this could be。 Well, maybe I did a little with the previous volume but just a bit。 The thing is, it seems like things are just barely starting to get interesting and I'm not sure how I feel about that。 “We are Jujutsu sorcerers。 You and I! Kugisaki! Nanami-san! All of our allies together, we are Jujutsu sorcerers!! As long as we live our friends who have passed away will not truly have been defeated! It’s not about sins or punishment。 The moment we become Jujutsu sorcerers; our lives cannot be limited to such misfortunes。 Looking for meaning or logic in death can at times defile the memories of those we’ve lost! Even so! What have you been entrusted with? You don’t need to answer right now。 However… until you find your answer, never stop moving。 For those of us who live as Jujutsu sorcerers that is the punishment we must endure。”
That ending has me absolutely shocked, confused, and intensely happy。 I've been dreaming about the day that particular character bit the dust, especially after these last couple of volumes, and seeing it happen was plain amazing。 There's no other way to describe it。 That being said, it was also a bit underwhelming since I wanted someone else to deliver the final blow。 Even more, I'm not even sure that how things ended is actually any better。 Things are terribly wrong right now and absolutely everything happening is just giving me more anxiety。 “Find your happiness。 No matter how you do it, if you’re happy my wish will have come true。”
Though mostly an action-packed volume, as it is an action-packed story, the dash of romance that we can see in this volume quite simply, destroyed my heart。 What a way to make something tragic。 Accompanying the romance we have a nice serving of philosophy that I was missing sorely。 I serve, whenever these characters have a minute to talk I'm always blown away。 Especially one special duo of brothers。 “I’m gonna kill you。 Even if you come back as another curse, I’ll kill you。 Change your name。 Change your form。 I’ll kill you again。 I don’t need to find meaning or a reason。 Maybe a hundred years after my death, the meaning behind my actions will become apparent。 In the grand scheme of things… I’m probably nothing more than a cog。 But I’ll keep killing curses for as long as can。 That’s my role in all this。”
____________This volume hurt so badly。 I think I expended 90% of it in tears。 And it was so incredibly good。 I am, yet again, genuinely scared for what is to come now because I have no idea what that is but I'm sure it's not gonna be too fun。 The end was insane, as per usual, and I'm glad it happened at the same time that I wanted it to go down differently。 RTC。 ____________Okay, okay。 I'm buckling up to make a final sprint and finish this infamous arc。 No, I don't feel any more ready than how I have been feeling lately。 I'm still doing it。 Just rip that band-aid off。 I don't like that cover because it makes me uneasy。 Yet again, is not like the cover is really telling me anything。 The thing is, I know that things just go from bad to worse。 I know this。 And yet, I keep hoping for things to get better, miraculously, and for me to get my happy ending。 It's delusional, but that's where I am at。 So, here I go。 Ready to tear my heart out with no regard for safety。 。。。more
Kai,
After a while I decided to continue and finish this volume。 The 14th one broke my heart into milion pieces, this one buried them into the ground。 I can't say much, because I'm afraid I'll accidentaly spoiler anything, but the fight is not even close to its end。 OHMYGOD, I don't know for how much longer I can take this pressure this manga is giving me。 Honestly, I absolutely love how Yuji has improved since he became a Jujutsu sorcerer。 After a while I decided to continue and finish this volume。 The 14th one broke my heart into milion pieces, this one buried them into the ground。 I can't say much, because I'm afraid I'll accidentaly spoiler anything, but the fight is not even close to its end。 OHMYGOD, I don't know for how much longer I can take this pressure this manga is giving me。 Honestly, I absolutely love how Yuji has improved since he became a Jujutsu sorcerer。 。。。more
